Weiner: the Musical!

July 15th, 2016

Thought you knew EVERYTHING about what happens inside the Beltway?

Washington Monument at Sunrise

“Weiner: the Musical” recounts the rise and fall of former congressman Anthony Weiner’s… fortunes. In this telling, a young Weiner makes a Faustian bargain with Satan: he will consign his firstborn son to Satan’s hands in return for money, sex, and power. But when Satan comes to collect, Weiner tries to renege and a maelstrom of sexual perversity, political chicanery, family drama, and media madness ensues.

The Dramaturge and Cast

Beth Karp, Composer and Lyricist.  Born in Washington D.C., Beth Karp sprang to life with politics in her blood and a song in her heart. Her love of music drove her to earn a BA in music from Cornell University and an MM in Composition from the Longy School of Music. She has spent the past seven years as a professional composer, pianist, and college instructor.  Beth’s projects integrate diverse musical influences, performance art. and multimedia elements designed to excite, surprise, and amuse the audience. She has a special passion for the cinema of the early twentieth century, and performs original piano scores integrating styles from ragtime to classic rock to minimalism. She has toured as a silent film accompanist through theaters, universities, and entertainment venues, presenting a program of shorts by the masters of early cinema and her critically acclaimed original score for the 1920 horror classic “The Golem”.  Weiner: The Musical was born of Beth’s lifelong immersion in musical theater and morbid fascination with politics and sex scandals. She is delighted to premiere her musical spin on the crazy events of 2011. Subsequent to this August’s performance, Beth will enter law school at the University of Chicago. She intends to work in government.
